Draymond ejected for stomping on Sabonis, says it was ‘solid basketball play’

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was called for a flagrant-2 foul and ejected in the fourth quarter of Monday’s Game 2 loss for stomping on Sacramento Kings star Domantas Sabonis.

Officials assessed Sabonis a technical foul for holding Green’s leg, which appeared to prompt Green’s response.

“My leg got grabbed – second time in two nights,” Green said of the incident postgame. “Referees just watch it. I gotta land my foot somewhere and I’m not the most flexible person so it’s not stretching that far.”

Green commented on a photo of the incident on Instagram following the game, calling it a “solid basketball play.”

“When I fell, I was protecting myself, and then the incident happened,” Sabonis said, according to ESPN’s Kendra Andrews. “There is no room for that in our game today.”

Sabonis went for X-rays on his ribs and lungs after the game, which came back negative, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The three-time All-Star will undergo further testing Tuesday for precautionary reasons, Wojnarowski added.

Green also requested an X-ray on his ankle after feeling soreness, according to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears. The 33-year-old reportedly believes a potential injury stems from when Sabonis grabbed his ankle before the stomp.

After the altercation, Green reacted to the jeering Sacramento crowd by shouting and clapping during a review of the play.

The Kings led 91-87 with 7:03 remaining when Green was ejected. They went on to beat the Warriors 114-106 to take a 2-0 series lead.

Green finished the contest with eight points, five assists, and four rebounds in 31 minutes.
