Rodgers: It’s going to be a ‘few-year partnership’ with Jets

It sounds like Aaron Rodgers is going to enjoy an extended stay in the Big Apple.

Rodgers said Tuesday his stint with the New York Jets will be a “few-year partnership,” according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

The quarterback’s comments come after he recently signed a reworked deal with the Jets. Rodgers’ guaranteed money over the next two seasons will fall from roughly $110 million to $75 million under the restructured agreement. As a result, his cap hit for the following three campaigns will be $8.9 million, $17.2 million, and $23.5 million, per Over The Cap.

“(It’s) a win-win-win for everybody,” Rodgers added. “A win for me: I get paid a ton of money. A win for the team: we get a low cap number and deferred some cash. A win for other guys that we can bring in and sign. I have no complaints. I’m not missing it at all.”

The four-time league MVP described contract talks with general manager Joe Douglas as an “easy conversation.” He also noted that his low cap hit gives the Jets the ability to add notable players to help the team compete.

“It’s about guys at the end of camp we could bring (in),” Rodgers explained. “There’s obviously more trades now that we see across the league, bigger names at the deadline than maybe my first couple of years in the league.”

Rodgers was acquired by New York this offseason after he spent 18 years with the Green Bay Packers. He’s aiming to turn around the fortunes of a Jets franchise that’s finished last in the AFC East in six of the past seven seasons.
