Buffy the Vampire Slayer has been on the list of franchises expected to get a reboot for some time now. As usual, fans bored with waiting for that to happen have been playing around with some AI-generated art of who they would like to see take on the role formerly portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Kirsty Swanson before her. Although there are many stars that could step into the role of the next Slayer, it is Spider-Man and Dune star Zendaya that has emerged as a top pick for many fans. In a new collection of fan-created images, it is easy to see why she would prove a popular choice.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer originally aired from 1997 to 2003, and starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers, a young woman destined to battle evil forces thanks to her supernatural powers as the Slayer. Coming off the back of the 1992 movie of the same name, which starred Swanson in the title role and, despite its lowly review scores, boasted a strong cast including Donald Sutherland, Luke Perry, David Arquette, and Hilary Swank, the series was a massive success and gained an instant place in pop culture.
Although there have been many attempts to reboot the franchise, and Gellar has been frequently asked about a possible return to her iconic role, it seems that any new version of Buffy – which we all know will come at some point – is going to involve a whole new cast. Bringing Buffy into the 21st century, the images shared online by Buffy2ville on Instagram certainly add some weight to Zendaya being a strong contender to kick vampire butt in a reboot. Zendaya’s Rise to Fame Could Lead to Buffy
Zendaya has grown immensely as an artist since her early days as a child model and dancer. Debuting on the Disney Channel sitcom Shake It Up in 2010, and going on to lead the channel’s series K.C. Undercover in 2015, she was just 20-years-old when she made her first appearance as MJ in Spider-Man: Homecoming and changed her career – and personal life – forever.
As well as appearing in two more Spider-Man films with her now-partner Tom Holland, Zendaya has proven that she is as versatile as any actress working in the industry, even those with several decades of experience behind them. She sang and danced with Zac Efron and Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman, became the youngest recipient of the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as drug-addicted teen Rue in Euphoria, and has now become one of the central characters in Denis Villeneuve’s remake of Frank Herbert’s Dune.
Of course, while her acting abilities would not be in question, the now-27-year-old could be seen as at the wrong end of the age scale to portray Buffy Summers if the series was to remain in its high school setting. Gellar was 20-years-old when she first stepped into the role of Buffy, while Swanson was 23 when she played the character on the big screen. Then again, several shows have cast stars in their late-20s and even early-30s as high school teens, so nothing is ever out of the question in the world of Hollywood.

Like many fan-created trailers and images, the artwork depicting Zendaya as the next holder of the Slayer title has generated a lot of positive appraisals from fans, but as to who will actually take on the role of Buffy Summers, and when, is still something that has proven as hard to nail down as the coffin lids of Sunnydale’s vampire population.
