The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo Gets Renewed for Season 2 at HBO Max

There’s more of The Not Too Late Show with Elmo where that came from on HBO Max. It has just been announced at the streamer that a second season of the late-night talk show-style Sesame Street spinoff has officially been renewed, and production on season 2 is already underway at Kaufman Astoria Studios in New York. New episodes will be debuting as soon as this fall.

“We’re thrilled to continue creating new Sesame Street adventures with HBO Max, giving children and families new ways to explore the neighborhood they love,” said Ed Wells, Sesame Workshop’s EVP and Head of Global Media and Education, in a statement. “This season of The Not-Too-Late Show is packed with all new ways to learn and play together; we can’t wait for kids and families to experience it.”

Amy Friedman, Head of Kids and Family Programming, Warner Bros, added: “Elmo is one of the most beloved characters in the world, and we are so lucky we get to hang out with him on HBO Max. We think everyone, especially our preschool audience, will be delighted with this reimagined second season – it’s the ultimate family playdate.”

Season 2 will expand upon the first season, adding more interactive games and a new overall look. Other things will stay the same, such as Cookie Monster serving as Elmo’s co-host, along with other Sesame Street Muppets helping out as various cast and crew members. Also like season 1, the series will include celebrity guests, musical performances, and opportunities fo preschoolers and their families to get up and play along.

Some of the celebrities who appeared in season 1 of The Not-Too-Late Show include Jimmy Fallon, Blake Likely, The Jonas Brothers, Jason Sudeikis, Olivia Wilde, John Oliver, Miles Brown, and even Batman. Meanwhile, some of the notable musical guests include names like Kacey Musgraves, Lil Nas X, Jordin Sparks, H.E.R, Josh Groban, Ciara, and Sara Bareilles. There’s no word yet on who might be showing up in season 2.

Sesame Street has been around for over five decades, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019. A television special commemorating 50 years of the iconic children’s program is also set to air on ABC next month. Called Sesame Street: 50 Years of Sunny Days, the two-hour special will premiere on Monday, April 26, at 8/7c. Various celebrities will be featured, such as Whoopi Goldberg, W. Kamau Bell, Olivia Munn, Chrissy Teigen, Christopher Jackson, Lucy Liu, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Questlove, and Usher.

Elmo hasn’t been a part of Sesame Street from the very start, but he has certainly become one of the show’s most popular characters with kids. He made his debut in 1980, initially as a background character. Years later, the character took off and hosts his own full segment on each Sesame Street episode called “Elmo’s World.” It was only natural for him to eventually get his own all-out TV series.

The first season of The Not-Too-Late Show with Elmo is currently streaming on HBO Max. Season 2 is expected to premiere sometime this fall, but a release date hasn’t yet been set. This news comes to us from Deadline.
