Micah Parsons is calling on the Dallas Cowboys to adopt an aggressive approach to free agency.
“The talent is there. We just got to be aggressive the same way (other teams) did,” Parsons said, according to the Forth Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris. “I don’t want to sit back and watch other (teams) build and build and us stay the same. Definitely some call to action. I want to see us become aggressive and get some players that will come in and make an impact. I want to see us bring back our own players. That’s just as important. Let’s see what we can do there.”
Parsons, who’s entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2025, is eligible for an extension that could see him become the highest-paid defensive player in the league.
“There’s been no progress. But I’m pretty confident something will happen,” he said when asked about the status of a possible extension.
The Cowboys reportedly held internal discussions about trading Parsons ahead of the new league year.
Parsons also revealed that he spoke with owner and general manager Jerry Jones during the Cotton Bowl in January.
“There’s definitely a plan in place to see how everything plays out,” Parsons said.
The Cowboys’ last offseason was highlighted by the signing of linebacker Eric Kendricks and reunion with Ezekiel Elliott. The franchise also negotiated lucrative extensions for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
The Cowboys haven’t made big splashes in free-agency in several years, and Jones told reporters during Super Bowl week that he sees the team’s approach this offseason being “in line” with those of others.
Dallas is currently $2.8 million over the projected salary cap for the 2025 season, per Over the Cap.
