Sam Smith’s Oversize Vetements Outfit at the Barbie Premiere

Sam Smith is a genius. Amid the many constricting garments and precarious necklines at the “Barbie” UK premiere in London on July 12, the singer opted for comfort. And comfort came in the form of an oversize sweatshirt and baggy jeans, both by Vetements. The temperature dipping into the 60s on the summer evening only cemented Smith’s brilliance because, cozy.

Pulled from the brand’s spring 2024 collection, the Vetements separates consist of a navy, thigh-grazing sweatshirt with “16 XL” embossed on the front. Smith’s light-wash jeans, meanwhile, feature a comically wide-leg, with the hem pooling around their ankles. The sweatshirt feels like something out of Ariana Grande‘s closet, while the entire look (and in the context of the event) is very reminiscent of Adam Sandler’s red carpet style. Smith accessorized the outfit with a diamond stud on one ear, and a dangling Vetements logo earring on the other.

Smith was recently revealed as the final celebrity artist on the “Barbie” soundtrack, and this is their first appearance on the high-profile press tour. Smith is quite familiar with making a statement on the red carpet: their inflatable jumpsuit at the 2023 Brits comes to mind.

Elsewhere on the pink carpet, Margot Robbie continued her theme of pulling from Barbie’s closet, this time emulating the Enchanted Evening doll. Ryan Gosling, meanwhile, wore a mint green suit after previously wearing pink (and a sentimental Eva Mendes necklace) to the Los Angeles premiere on July 9.

Without a doubt, however, Smith was the most comfortable at the UK premiere — and perhaps the entire “Barbie” press tour. See photos of their maximalist fit ahead.
