2026 has been a stellar year for thrillers, and Jessica Chastain’s latest addition to the genre is now wrapping up its theatrical run. After earning $108 million at the box office, Chastain’s terrifying performance will soon be available on digital, and a release date has now been revealed.
Chastain pulled double duty in Universal’s horror thriller Other Mommy, where she played the role of Ursula and the disturbing doppelganger entity. The film has concluded its theatrical run and will be released digitally starting on Nov. 10, 2026. Other Mommy will then be released on 4K and Blu-ray on Dec. 29, 2026.
If purchased at participating retailers, the home release features several special features and deleted scenes. The bonus content includes three deleted scenes and an alternate version of the car confrontation, as well as three behind-the-scenes featurettes about Other Mommy’s special effects and fractured family story. Other Mommy’s budget was reportedly around $19 million. That means even with marketing factored in, the $108 million box office return likely pushed it into profitability. That’s also despite reviews being largely negative. The film currently holds a 19% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. The most common critiques revolve around Other Mommy’s flawed narrative and lack of scares, with some of the more frightening moments appearing in the trailer.
There was some praise for Chastain’s performance and several key sequences, but the overall sentiment amongst critics was negative. The Rotten Tomatoes audience score was substantially higher, but at just 48%, it still wasn’t enough to land a Fresh rating. Other Mommy is based on the best-selling book Incidents Around the House by author Josh Malerman, though there were several changes made to the original story, including the ending.
Chastain’s next project is also in the thriller genre, but it couldn’t be more different from Other Mommy. In Heartland, Chastain plays the role of a country music legend named Misty Jones, who returns to Nashville after two decades to help find her missing niece, Charlie Hart. Heartland trades the supernatural and horror elements of Other Mommy for something more akin to a Taylor Sheridan project, with some traces of John Wick present as well.
Other Mommy releases on digital platforms Nov. 10, 2026, while Heartland releases on Netflix Nov. 13, 2026.
