‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Gets T-Rex Popcorn Bucket From Cinemark

Popcorn buckets have become a bizarre phenomenon recently, with both major and minor movies pumping up the cost of a trip to the cinema with $30+ pieces of plastic that some moviegoers just have to own. Just like any collectible, there are those who only want pieces that appeal to them, and others will sell a kidney to add the latest elaborate release to their collections. Following Regal’s unveiling of their Jurassic World Rebirth bucket – which gives fans their own dino incubator – Cinemark has revealed their offering, which features a Jurassic icon.

Jurassic World Rebirth is heading back to an island scenario after the mainland chaos of Jurassic World: Dominion. With Scarlett Johansson leading this latest addition to the franchise, and original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp back on board, there is a lot of expectation for the film to deliver the kind of thrills and story that made the franchise a success all the way back in 1993.

When the first Jurassic Park movie was released, though, popcorn buckets tended to be regular-shaped and at the most had a wraparound image of a movie – not necessarily the movie you were seeing – on the side of it. While those still exist, the buckets that are now incredibly popular come in all shapes and sizes, and Cinemark’s Jurassic World: Rebirth bucket takes the form of the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex. ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ Comes With High Expectations

Following the disappointing release of Jurassic Park III in 2001, the dinosaur franchise went into hibernation for more than a decade. Although it seemed like there may never be another entry in the prehistoric saga, Jurassic World became a monster hit in 2015 and revived the saga with a new park, new characters, but enough nostalgia to make audiences feel the roar-some power of dinosaurs all over again.

While the two sequels, Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, delivered strong results at the box office, opinions were divided, and it seemed that the franchise could be about to become extinct once again. Instead, Universal announced Jurassic World: Rebirth as a surprisingly quick follow-up, and so far things look to be heading the right way.

For long-term Jurassic fans, the movie is finally bringing one of the lost scenes from Michael Crichton’s original novel to life with the river raft scene that sees several characters being stalked by a T-Rex determined to make them a snack. However, there are also plenty of connections to the rest of the Jurassic saga, including mutant hybrids, the Mosasaurus, and a return of the Spinosaur for the first time since Jurassic Park III, albeit with a new, more scientifically accurate design.

With several dinosaur redesigns and an all-star cast including Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Ed Skrein, Jurassic World: Rebirth is looking at kicking off a busy July with a $110-$125 million opening weekend on July 2. While is more than the total haul of several recent releases, it is one of the lower estimates for a Jurassic film, and it is likely that the movie will suffer in its second weekend when Superman takes flight on July 11.
