Warning! The following contains SPOILERS for Netflix’s Damsel.Millie Bobby Brown wasn’t the one who needed saving when all the plumes of smoke cleared. Brown’s character, the titular damsel, Elodie, returns with a fiery new friend after supposedly being sacrificed at the conclusion of Netflix’s Damsel. And Elodie’s foe-turned-friend, the fire-breathing dragon, burns down the entire kingdom while Queen Isabelle (Robin Wright) bleeds and screams in the crackling flames. However, Brown’s co-star and on-screen sister, Brooke Carter, reveals there was an alternate ending that was also filmed. Carter said in an interview with The Direct:

“We filmed two different endings for the film. And I feel like it would be great for them to see the other ending that we filmed, just because it could start like a whole different vibe about what’s going to happen for [the] future. So, one was where Elodie stayed with us, and one was where Elodie left.”

Carter, who plays Elodie’s younger sister Floria in Damsel, continued:

There were a lot of changes. I think we changed quite a bit of it. I mean, the storyline from the start to the middle stayed the same. The ending changed quite a lot. A lot of lines were cut, and a lot of lines were added. So, when we were doing the reshoots, there were quite a lot of scenes that they’d swapped out for other scenes.

Floria ends up sailing away at the conclusion of Netflix’s Damsel with both her older sister Elodie (Brown) and their stepmother, Lady Bayford (Angela Bassett). For the film’s star, it’s arguably another in a growing list of Brown’s best performances in the performer’s impressive resume. But for Carter, it was an “intimidating” experience when it came to collaborating with Brown for the first time. Carter said in the same interview:

“It was such an amazing experience. It was quite intimidating at first because she’s such a professional actress, and she’s so big in the acting world. But over time, she gave me lots of tips and tricks on set. And it made me want to push myself more being around such amazing actors […] When we were in Portugal, and we were staying on this wine vineyard, we had dinner every night together. And it was great.”

Related Damsel Director Teases Sequel & Universe Expansion with Optimistic Update Millie Bobby Brown’s Damsel universe ‘is really open,’ according to director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

While Brown has played some unforgettable characters like Stranger Things’ Eleven and Enola Holmes, Damsel director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo insists the actress has a “magical way” of connecting to the audience where her latest Netflix project is concerned. Fresnadillo said in an interview with Tudum:

“We were so lucky to have Millie. She’s a very charismatic, sparkling personality. She has that quality that only stars have, which is you cannot take your eyes off her. She has the ability in this movie, in such a magical way, to bring the audience into her journey and take them into that kind of dark, intense, and thrilling adventure that she’s having. She’s the heart of the movie.”
