Following the huge success of The Beekeeper, Jason Statham has set his sights on his next action outing. And the currently untitled project finds the action hero on familiar, but no less exciting, ground. Set to be presented by Black Bear at Cannes market, the action movie will be helmed by 2 Guns and Everest director Baltasar Kormákur, with the movie finding The Stath once again using his particular set of skills when his violent past catches up with him.

You can check out the synopsis for the untitled action thriller below courtesy of Deadline.

“In the currently untitled pic, Statham will play Mason who lives in isolation in a remote Scottish island. When he rescues a young girl from the ocean in a terrible storm, he sets a chain of events in motion that brings a violent attack to his hideaway, forcing him back into the world to confront the ghosts of his past.”

Statham, who is of course best known for flying the flag for old-school action fare with the likes of The Transporter, The Meg, and The Expendables, will lead the action thriller under the direction of Kormákur (Contraband, Beast) and a script by Ward Parry.

Statham is also on board as a producer under Punch Palace Productions alongside Kormákur for RVK Studios, John Friedberg for Black Bear, and Jon Berg and Greg Silverman. Production is set to begin in November in the United Kingdom and Iceland.

“The combination of Jason’s unparalleled skill in explosive action and track record in the genre, with Balt’s elevated, kinetic filmmaking style that always keeps character and story in the foreground is undeniable,” said Black Bear’s John Friedberg. “We’re thrilled to bring this new action franchise to life with such talented partners as Balt and Jason and can’t wait to introduce the world to Michael Mason.”

Jason Statham Has Several More Action Movies Currently in the Pipeline

Alongside this untitled thriller, Statham has several other action movies already in the pipeline. The action star will reunite with The Beekeeper’s David Ayer for Levon’s Trade, which has been written by his Expendables co-star Sylvester Stallone. The Stath stars as Levon Cade, who left his profession behind to work in construction and be a good dad to his daughter. But when a local girl vanishes, he’s asked to return to the skills that made him a mythic figure in the shadowy world of counter-terrorism.

Statham recently signed on to unite with the director behind last year’s Plane, Jean-François Richet, for Mutiny, with Lionsgate picking up the North American distribution rights ahead of the Cannes market. You can check out the official synopsis below.

“In Mutiny, after his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed is set up to take the fall for the crime— leaving him on the run as he works to uncover an international conspiracy.”

Finally, Statham is due to reprise the role of Deckard Shaw and reunite with Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and the rest of the large ensemble cast for Fast X: Part 2, which is expected to bring the main Fast & Furious franchise to an end.
