Rumors indicated that the movie might be set in the 1960s, adding a retro flair to the beloved superhero team’s story. In a recent interview with Collider, director Shakman emphasized that the film would stand out from its predecessors, stating,

“It’s different in so many ways. I wish I could be specific. I wish I could say more. But we are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material.”

While details remain under wraps, Shakman’s comments suggest that audiences can expect a departure from the familiar, with a rendition of the Fantastic Four that is “unlike anything.” Shakman shared, ‘I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can’t. But I think it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you’ve seen before.”

Ebon Moss-Bachrach, cast as The Thing/Ben Grimm, recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, where he shed light on the evolution of his character’s portrayal. Moving away from the practical suits used in previous adaptations, this version of The Thing will leverage modern technology to bring the character to life. Moss-Bachrach said,

“In the past, I think they’ve done a suit. Michael Chiklis wore a suit that apparently was really uncomfortable, and it’s kind of… we’re past that. It’s a little kind of cosplay, kind of amateur that kind of stuff now with the technology we have.”

Moss-Bachrach also shared his surprise at being cast in the iconic role. “I found out at the beginning of August,” he revealed, recounting the unexpected call from his agent during the writer’s strike. The news came as a shock, but it’s clear that the actor is now fully immersed in the MCU, ready to bring a new dimension to The Thing.
