Mike Flanagan Had Great Plans for Another Netflix Project

Netflix

The Life of Chuck is the third adaptation of Stephen King’s work that Mike Flanagan will bring to theaters after Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep, but he has also made his mark in the world of horror on the small screen thanks to Netflix. After closing a multi-project deal, in 2018 he premiered his first series on the streaming platform, The Haunting of Hill House, which quickly became a great hit.

In 2020, he demonstrated his talent again with The Haunting of Bly Manor, and in 2021 with Midnight Mass. In 2022, he released what would become his penultimate project with the company, The Midnight Club, as he decided to continue his career with Amazon MGM Studios.

Last month, his final show with Netflix premiered, The Fall of the House of Usher, which is already being recognized as one of his best works. But had he continued his deal with the company, he already had plans for a new entry in the Hill House and Bly Manor anthology.

Through Bloody Disgusting, the introduction of a new Suntup Editions release of Richard Matheson’s Hell House written by Flanagan was revealed, where he explained that if he had made another show with Netflix, it would have been based on Matheson’s story:

“When I adapted Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House as a Netflix series, there was much talk about how to continue the Haunting anthology. We followed Hill House with The Haunting of Bly Manor, based on numerous ghost stories by Henry James. Had there been a third season, I wanted that season to be The Haunting of Hell House. It was actually the first title we explored when Hill House was over, but the rights were spoken for and there did not seem to be a path forward.”
