Summary

  • NEON reveals a brand-new trailer and posters for Longlegs, giving horror fans their first look at Nicolas Cage in the psychological thriller.
  • Cage describes his character as a “possessed Geppetto” who creates dolls that infiltrate families and make them do terrible things.
  • Longlegs terrifyingly creative ad campaign includes four eerie movie posters revealing apparent victims of Cage’s killer character; the film opens in theaters on July 12.

NEON has been teasing Longlegs for quite some time online, which began with the film’s “every year there is another” teaser to kick off the New Year. But now, NEON finally reveals a brand-new trailer and images of four movie posters, which give horror fans their very first look at Nicolas Cage’s serial killer, who he describes as a “possessed Geppetto.” Check out the eerie footage below, which also features the character hunting him, who is portrayed by Maika Monroe:

In an interview with The New York Times journalist Kyle Buchanan, Cage described the creepy killer he portrays in Longlegs. Cage said (via X, formerly Twitter):

I play, I almost call him like a possessed Geppetto.

Cage’s character was purposely left out of the cryptic 36-second teaser NEON dropped back on January 5 — not to mention the rest of the ad campaing — to begin marketing a then unknown horror film. But the news had broken earlier that Cage would be starring in a scary movie from NEON called Longlegs. And while Cage is largely inconspicuous in the new footage, fans can catch a glimpse of him if they slow down the trailer (pictured below):

Cage said in the same interview:

“He makes these dolls, and the dolls infiltrate families and get the families to do terrible things. It’s a horror film. And [Oz Perkins] was, I think telling a story, in some ways, about his mother, and I played Longlegs as a very androgynous character, and I’m channeling my mom.”

NEON’s Longlegs Campaign

NEON

“You’ve got the teeth of the hydra upon you.” That’s the tagline attached to NEON’s latest trailer for the upcoming horror film, Longlegs. And NEON’s secretive ad campaign has been an intriguing slow burn that continues to build suspense and anticipation for the Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe-led movie. For example, apparent victims of Cage’s serial killer have been popping up online in terrifying images, which also serve as movie posters for Longlegs. Check out the four targets, which were originally posted on X, formerly Twitter, with a brief description of each photo below:

Still on the fence about whether to watch Cage’s upcoming serial killer movie? If so, check out the Longlegs synopsis, which reads as follows:

“FBI Agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Nicolas Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.”
