Sasha Calle Says The Flash Is a ‘Runway to a Better Story’ for Supergirl

While The Flash brings back Ezra Miler as the titular speedster and Michael Keaton as Batman, the big-budget DC film also introduces Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. As of now, it’s unclear if Calle will reprise her role as Supergirl in any future films, whether that’s in a potential sequel to The Flash or even her own solo film. DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have announced plans to make a Supergirl-centric film, dubbed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but they haven’t yet decided if this movie would bring back Calle in the role.

In any case, Calle is eager to reprise her role as Kara if she’s given the opportunity. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Calle, who makes her feature film debut with The Flash, was asked if she’d be down to suit back up as Supergirl in the future. It was an easy answer for Calle, who responded, “Absolutely, are you kidding me?”

“I love her so much and I feel her very deeply. I think this movie was a runway to a better story for her,” she continued. “I just want to dive deeper into Kara and her feelings into her day to day. I would just love to see her in regular clothes, in human clothes. As a fan, the whole time that I was filming, I kept thinking, ‘What would she wear? What glasses would she wear?'”

Calle added, “[In The Flash], we don’t meet her human, realized self, so as a fan, that would be something very cool

It could be that Gunn and Safran were waiting to see how well received The Flash would be by fans before deciding what to do next with the film’s characters. Calle’s Supergirl has notably drawn a lot of praise from the critics, who’ve called her one of the film’s standouts, and that can only help her odds of reprising the role. Even if she’s not the one set to play Kara in the DCU-set film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, she could still potentially return in a DC Elseworlds movie as her version of Supergirl.

Director Andy Muschietti has also left the door open for having a sequel to The Flash. He recently said how the plan was to see how The Flash performed in theaters before deciding the next steps, noting how the film could easily have its story expanded in a way that wouldn’t affect Gunn and Safran’s other plans for the DCU, given the focus on the multiverse.

“I think that we’re all waiting to see how this movie does,” Muschietti told ComicBook.com. “Of course, there’s excitement about continuing the story, especially if this movie’s successful. Of course, there’s an architecture in DC that is brewing, and it’s being created. And the question is, will this new architecture absorb this story? The good thing about the multiverse is that it is possible. The multiverse allows all of this different worlds to coexist and interact.”

The Flash is now playing in movie theaters.
