Perhaps The Room and Star Wars is the crossover we didn’t know we needed. Recently, Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill posted to Twitter to ask his followers, “miss me?” In response, the official Star Wars account directly referenced a memorable quote from Tommy Wiseau’s character in The Room by stating the phrase, “Oh hi, Mark.” This captured the attention of Wiseau, who also quoted The Room while asking to join the Star Wars universe.
“YOU’RE TEARING ME APART Star Wars! Put me in your Universe!” the eccentric filmmaker tweeted.
It didn’t stop there. Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter got involved by paraphrasing the “tearing me apart” quote to more accurately reflect Star Wars canon by tweeting, “You’re tearing me apart, Leia!” That had Wiseau then saying that they should all get started right away collaborating on the next Star Wars film by writing, “Let’s make a movie!”
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
For those who haven’t seen the movie, The Room is an independent drama film released in 2003 and written, produced, executive produced, directed by, and starring Tommy Wiseau. It tells the story of a love triangle involving Wiseau’s character, Johnny, and his best friend Mark (Greg Sestero) and fiancee Lisa (Juliette Danielle). At one point in the movie, Lisa falsely accuses Johnny of abuse, prompting him to retreat to the rooftop of his apartment building in anger. After lamenting how he did not hit Lisa, he happens to notice his friend Mark sitting nearby, prompting the often-quoted phrase, “Oh hi, Mark.”
The film’s memorable dialogue is one big reason why it has achieved cult status, with fans everywhere continuing to watch screenings of The Room every year. Another quote that was referenced multiple times in the Star Wars exchange comes when Johnny is arguing with Lisa about their relationship going sour. Frustrated, Wiseau’s Johnny clenches his fists and screams, “You’re tearing me apart, Lisa!”

The Making of The Room Has Been Made Into a Movie
A24
Mark actor Greg Sestero published a memoir detailing his recollections of making The Room. This book led to the development of the 2017 film The Disaster Artist, which featured James Franco as Wiseau and Dave Franco co-starring as Sestero. Also directed by James Franco and written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the film was widely acclaimed upon its release. Franco won the award for Best Actor at the Golden Globes and the script was up for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards.
Wiseau and Sestero have since reunited for the dark comedy film Best F(r)iends as co-stars; Sestero wrote and produced with Justin MacGregor directing the 2017 film. Wiseau also got back behind the camera as the director of the upcoming giant shark movie Big Shark which features Wiseau in a lead role alongside Sestero and Isaiah LaBorde. The trio also penned the screenplay. It’s unclear when exactly the movie will be released, but it sounds like it’s a must-see for any fan of The Room.
