Zelda Williams Calls Lisa Frankenstein a ‘Bonkers, Wonderful’ Zombie Movie

Making her feature film debut, director Zelda Williams (who is the daughter of the late, great actor and comedian Robin Williams) has teased what to expect from Lisa Frankenstein, promising audiences that it will be different to the constant remakes and reboots that Hollywood so often turns to.

“I know Hollywood gets a bad rep for regurgitating sequels and remakes and reboots over and over and over… and yeah, it totally does that! But it’s also finally letting me make the most bonkers, wonderful zombie script I’ve ever read, and for that, I will be forever grateful!” The filmmaker said on social media last year.

The seminal sci-fi story of Frankenstein has long been a cinematic staple. Alongside Lisa Frankenstein, Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro is also now working on his long-awaited take on the tale of the doctor and the monster. Starring Andrew Garfield as The Doctor, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth as The Bride, del Toro’s Frankenstein will also take a different approach to Mary Shelley’s source material as it follows the story Dr. Pretorious, who needs to track down Frankenstein’s monster- who is believed to have died in a fire forty years before–in order to continue the experiments of Dr. Frankenstein.

Lisa Frankenstein is scheduled to be released in the United States just in time for Valentine’s Day on February 9, 2024, by Focus Features.
