Why Sylvester Stallone Is the Last Action Hero on Frank Grillo’s Costar Hit List

Summary

  • Frank Grillo has worked with many action stars, but he wants to work with Sylvester Stallone.
  • Grillo has enjoyed working with actors like Gerard Butler and Jason Statham in movies with little action.
  • Grillo’s next big appearance will be in the animated series
    Creature Commandos
, part of the new DCU.

Frank Grillo has tussled with many action heroes over the years, including Liam Neeson, Jason Statham and Gerard Butler, but there is one last action hero on his hit list that he really wants to work with – Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone.

Speaking exclusively to MovieWeb ahead of his new action movie Lights Out, Grillo answered the question of which action stars he has not worked with previously that he would love to star alongside. Singling out Stallone, Grillo said:

“You know, I’ve worked with the big guys. I mean, I’ve worked with Statham, I’ve worked with Gerard Butler, I’ve worked with Liam Neeson. You know, I’ve worked with a lot of those guys that I really respect. But I’d love to do something with Sly. Sly’s a friend of mine and he’s had such a great resurgence in his career, and he’s just so iconic. I always ask him in movies that I do, that would warrant ‘The Stallone.’ I’d love to do something with him. I really would, before the swan sings its song. So other than that, I’ve done it with all the guys, a lot of them anyways.”

He continued:

“I’ve kind of danced with a lot of those guys. I really have. And it was fun to do it with Gerry Butler, because we were in a jail cell in Cop Shop and there was really very little action, and it was a lot of just talking, which was great. And he was great at it, it was a lot of fun. Are there any young guys, kind of young action guys? I mean, I beat them all up in Captain America! […] It’s been great. I’ve been really fortunate. But yes, Stallone is the one I would love to deal with. “

Frank Grillo Will Follow-Up Lights Out With His DCU Debut

Grillo will next appear in Lights Out, his latest R-rated action thriller directed by Christian Sesma and costarring Mekhi Phifer, Jaime King, Dermot Mulroney, and Scott Adkins. The film follows Michael “Duffy” Duffield, played by Grillo, a homeless veteran who becomes an underground fighter with the assistance of a newly released ex-con. This partnership thrusts them into a world filled with corrupt cops and hired killers, all while attempting to navigate their own personal redemption and obligations.

The animated series has been teased as an R-rated introduction to the new regime at DC Studios, and is believed to be heading to Max in in Fall 2024. While there has been little revealed about the series so far, we can expect that to change in the near future as its premier approaches.
