One of the best modern sci-fi action shows is all set to land on Netflix. Featuring an ensemble of captivating characters, topical themes, intense shootouts, espionage action, and a complex time-travel plot that will have you both enthralled and confused (at times), the series is one of the most underrated shows to come out of Britain in recent years, and will hopefully now find a whole new audience thanks to streaming.
Created by Joe Barton, who recently found success on Netflix with his critically acclaimed spy thriller series, Black Doves, starring Keira Knightley, the series is titled The Lazarus Project, and stars soon-to-be-Snape Paapa Essiedu as a seemingly ordinary young Londoner who discovers that, thanks to an inherent gene in his physical makeup, he can experience time loops. What follows is a thrilling tale of global espionage and keeping the apocalypse from the door, but it’s probably just easier to read the official synopsis, which you’ll find below…

“George is under the impression that he is beginning to lose touch with reality when he finds himself living the same day over and over again. While you likely missed The Lazarus Project at the time (it began back in 2022), Netflix is here to give you what you didn’t even realize you needed, with the streamer platforming all 16 episodes of the show in the U.S. from July 28, 2025.
Could Netflix Save ‘The Lazarus Project’?
Sky Max
Created by Joe Barton for Sky Max, and premiering in the U.S. on the TNT network, The Lazarus Project is led by Gangs of London star Paapa Essiedu, with the rest of the cast comprised of Caroline Quentin (Jonathan Creek), Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Anjli Mohindra (Bodyguard), Rudi Dharmalingam (Wakefield), Charly Clive (Pure), Salóme Gunnarsdóttir (Pennyworth), and Vinette Robinson (Sherlock).
While the series was met with rave reviews, even landing a rare rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Lazarus Project was savagely canceled last year after two seasons. Ending on a cliffhanger (though the series is still very much worth watching regardless), a spokesperson for Sky told RadioTimes, “The Lazarus Project has brought audiences jaw-dropping action and time-bending storylines across two seasons, and we are incredibly proud of this BAFTA-winning series. Whilst we won’t be commissioning another season, we would like to thank the incredible team who made this show possible.”
Should The Lazarus Project become a big hit on Netflix, could the streamer step in and save the day by giving the action sci-fi show a final third season? The studio has done it before, and this would be the perfect time for some déjà vu.
