It is a given that the NFL will expand at some point, and with all of the talk of International Series games, we often wonder if a team could expand into Europe. That discussion itself sparks a ton of great topics and controversies, and it’s a real possibility that a destination across the pond could see an NFL franchise come to fruition.
Today, though, we will focus on a follow-up article written on the Touchdown Wire in October of 2025 titled Five cities that deserve the NFL’s next expansion team.” Let’s concentrate on domestic-only cities that could land a franchise at some point, beyond what was already presented. St. Louis, Toronto, Salt Lake City, San Diego, and Portland.

San Antonio, Texas
It is highly possible that as long as Jerry Jones still has breath in his body, he would not allow another team to come anywhere near his Dallas Cowboys. San Antonio could support an NFL team, and the fans would welcome one with open arms, but the chances are slim.
Honolulu, Hawaii
The NFL is very familiar with Hawaii, after hosting its Pro Bowl there from 1980 to 2009, and a couple of sporadic years after that. Population-wise, it far outweighs a few NFL cities, but the television market is much smaller. But hey, at least the weather is beautiful. Would you have a problem with being drafted to a team in Hawaii?

Sacramento, California
If the Sacramento Kings of old are any consolation, an NFL team would be a huge hit in “Sack Town.” With the Raiders departing for Las Vegas, leaving a bad taste in Californians’ mouths, the state capitol and its population make great sense.
Orlando, Florida
Although the state of Florida already has a ton of collegiate teams, a bunch of MLB teams, the Miami Heat, and the Orlando Magic. Let’s just give them another NFL team. Competition is a great thing right? They have hosted the Pro Bowl, and they attract millions of tourists. The question is… How would the residents feel?

Louisville, Kentucky
This one may be the most far-fetched on the list, but I can assure you that the fans would adapt to it and welcome it with open arms. Louisville is a great town, and Kentucky residents are very passionate about their teams. I think that it could work.
