Chandler Jones says Raiders sent crisis team to home amid absence

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones posted on Instagram on Wednesday night that the Raiders sent a local crisis response team to his home, according to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez. The posts have since been deleted.

Jones shared an image of a credential from an individual who works for the Las Vegas CRT team, adding that he was told that he was in danger. The Raiders’ pass-rusher later posted that the CRT team led him outside in minimal clothing but that the interaction didn’t result in any further action.

“Now I understand why players turn to social media,” Jones said. “At first I frowned upon it. But it’s our only outlet. If I didn’t do this, it would’ve been kept under wraps.”

Head coach Josh McDaniels described the situation regarding Jones as “day-to-day” and a private matter that he wouldn’t discuss with reporters during his weekly press conference. Jones is currently away from the team, and his status for Sunday’s season opener against the Denver Broncos remains uncertain.

“We’ve never really gone into those kind of things, so I’m going to steer away from that,” McDaniels said.

Wednesday’s development arrives one day after Jones criticized the club in another social media post after he was unable to access the team’s gym. The veteran defender previously took aim at both McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, while also suggesting that he’d like to leave the Raiders.

“It’s a shame that I am a top athlete with 112 sacks in the NFL and I have to go to a local gym to work out during the season for no apparent reason this is wild to me Josh and you know it you need to do what’s right,” Jones said. He also indicated that he didn’t want to continue playing for the Raiders if McDaniels and Ziegler remained in their current roles before deleting the stories from his Instagram shortly after.

Jones recently missed a stretch of practices ahead of the regular season due to an unspecified injury, but he rejoined the team last week, according to The Associated Press’ Mark Anderson.

The former two-time first-team All-Pro defensive end is entering his second season with the Raiders after signing a three-year, $51-million extension with Las Vegas in March 2022.

Jones has been unable to replicate his production from his stints with the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals. He concluded his 2022 campaign with 38 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and three tackles for loss. Las Vegas missed the playoffs after finishing third in the AFC West with a 6-11 record.
