Curry’s historic Game 7 performance sets up 2nd-round clash with Lakers

The Golden State Warriors’ playoff experience shined through as they stormed back in the second half for a dominant 120-100 Game 7 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Stephen Curry was front and center in the Warriors’ win, tallying a playoff career-high 50 points on 20-of-38 shooting to go along with eight boards, six assists, and one steal.

The reigning Finals MVP also surpassed Kevin Durant for the most points in a Game 7 in NBA history.

“(Steph) doesn’t surprise me,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters postgame. “We all take him for granted because he’s brilliant night after night and we’ve been watching this for 10 years.

“You just have to remind yourself every once in a while … this is one of the great players in the history of the game. But that’s how I felt back in my playing days with Michael Jordan.”

Curry’s 50-point output ties Karl Malone for the most in a playoff game by a player age 35 or older, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Curry’s previous top postseason mark was a 47-point performance in Game 3 of the Finals against the Toronto Raptors. The nine-time All-Star has now cracked the 40-point mark in the playoffs on eight occasions.

“There’s a reason he’s a two-time MVP, a Finals MVP … he pushes us over the top in moments like this,” said Warriors guard Klay Thompson. “When he’s in the zone like that, you try to just get him in his spots. Get him the ball. Get out the way.”

Thompson added: “This is a Game 7 I’ll forever remember as the Steph Curry game. He’s just a joy to watch and play with. I really truly enjoy … just sharing a backcourt with him.”

Golden State will take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the next round, beginning Tuesday at Chase Center.

The Lakers won three of the four regular-season meetings.
