Geno angry about ‘dirty play’ that caused knee injury

Geno Smith avoided a serious knee injury during Monday night’s win over the New York Giants, but after the game, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback was still upset about the tackle that forced him to miss two series.

“A dirty play. Dirty play,” Smith said, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. “You guys can see it. It was a dirty play. It’s no place in this sport for that, and hopefully, something happens. But other than that, the grace of God allowed me to come back into this game, and I’m happy to be back out there.”

Giants linebacker Isaiah Simmons tackled Smith while the quarterback was going out of bounds, pulling him down from behind and landing on his legs. Smith was visibly angry after the play, immediately getting into it with the Giants’ defense before exiting to the locker room.

Simmons insisted it was a clean play and that he wouldn’t intentionally injure an opponent.

“Nobody is trying to hurt anybody out there. I want everyone to be great. … I would hate anyone intentionally trying to hurt me,” Simmons said. “None of that was intended. We’re just trying to play hard and win.”

Smith was able to return for the second half and finished with 110 yards and a touchdown to help Seattle move to 3-1. Drew Lock stepped up in Smith’s absence, leading the Seahawks to a touchdown drive.

The 32-year-old Smith said he’s “fine” despite his mobility seeming limited after his return to the game.

Seattle will go on the road to face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5.
