LeBron: ‘I don’t have much time left’ in NBA

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James provided a candid response when asked how much longer he’ll play in the NBA.

“I’m not gonna play another 21 years, that’s for damn sure. But not very long,” James told The Athletic’s Jovan Buha after the Lakers’ 116-104 win against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday. “I don’t know when that door will close as far as when I’ll retire. But I don’t have much time left.”

James had one of the best shooting nights of his career, scoring 40 points while knocking down a career-best 9-of-10 threes.

The 39-year-old has continued to improve his outside jumper throughout his career. James is shooting 40.1% from three this season – the second-best percentage of his career – on 5.2 attempts per contest.

The four-time MVP received a standing ovation from the away crowd when he exited Sunday’s game late in the fourth quarter.

“I just try to give (the fans) a game,” James said, per Buha.

This is the third time James has scored 40 points in a game this season.

The four-time NBA champion is still putting up terrific numbers in Year 20. James is averaging 25.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.1 assists in 64 games.

Earlier this season, he became the first player in NBA history to hit the 40,000-point plateau.

Los Angeles is 7-3 over its last 10 contests and sits ninth in the Western Conference, two games up on the Golden State Warriors. L.A. will travel to Toronto to take on the Raptors on Tuesday.
