Pacquiao: ‘We’re working on’ Mayweather exhibition match in Tokyo

Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao says an exhibition bout against former opponent Floyd Mayweather is in the works.

“We’re working on it,” Pacquiao, who’s in Saudi Arabia for the Tyson Fury versus Francis Ngannou fight, told MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn on Friday. “Actually, supposedly, it’s coming in December. But we’re still working on it. But hoping for an exhibition match – (in) Tokyo, Japan.”

Pacquiao announced his retirement from pro boxing in 2021, one month after a unanimous decision loss to Yordenis Ugas. Since then, he has participated in one exhibition fight, besting South Korean internet personality and martial artist DK Yoo last December.

Mayweather has competed in a host of exhibitions since retiring from pro competition in 2017, including a high-profile fight against YouTuber Logan Paul in 2021.

Mayweather and Pacquiao are two of the greatest boxers of their generation. They met in a long-awaited, highly anticipated superfight in 2015, with Mayweather winning by unanimous decision.

Mayweather, 46, won 15 world championships across super featherweight and light middleweight. He retired with a 50-0 pro record. Pacquiao, 44, held titles in eight weight classes.
