Raiders’ Adams frustrated after 1-catch game: ‘Don’t know what to say’

Frustrations are continuing to boil over for Davante Adams after the Las Vegas Raiders receiver was held to one catch for 11 yards in Monday’s 26-14 loss to the Detroit Lions.

“I don’t know what to say at this moment. I truly don’t,” Adams told reporters postgame. “I wish I had the words to say something that’s not gonna get blown up in the media and taken out of context, so I truly just don’t know.”

One of the NFL’s premier receivers having such a minimal role has been an ongoing story for the Raiders’ struggling offense over the last month. The six-time Pro Bowler first voiced his concerns after seeing a combined nine targets in wins over the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots.

The offense made a point of getting him involved early and often last week against the Chicago Bears, but it wasn’t long before he was once again phased out of the eventual blowout loss.

Adams received only seven targets Monday in Detroit, with several highlighting some concerning quarterback play for the Raiders. Jimmy Garoppolo threw a brutal end-zone interception intended for Adams in the first quarter, and he had two egregious misses with his top target running free downfield in the fourth quarter.

Garoppolo finished the night completing just 10 of 21 passes for 126 yards, no touchdowns, and a league-leading ninth interception. Adams was seen throwing his helmet on the sideline late in the game after a turnover on downs effectively sealed the loss and dropped Las Vegas to 3-5.

“It’s not hard to maintain confidence in our offense, it’s just hard to curb your frustration when you can’t put it together when you know you should,” Adams said.

The star wideout has been the subject of trade interest ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, with multiple clubs reportedly considering pursuing a deal, but the Raiders have reportedly told teams that they won’t move him.

Adams signed a five-year, $140-million contract after joining the Raiders in a trade with the Green Bay Packers last offseason. He enjoyed a productive season with former college teammate Derek Carr in 2022, racking up 100 catches for 1,516 yards and 14 touchdowns.
