Report: Browns’ Chubb feared to have season-ending knee injury

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is believed to have suffered a season-ending knee injury that includes multiple torn ligaments in Monday night’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, sources told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Chubb was carted off the field following a violent collision with Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick early in the second quarter. He was in visible pain and the ESPN broadcast declined to show a replay of the hit due to the gruesome nature.

The star tailback is expected to have tests to confirm the severity of the injury Tuesday, Rapoport adds.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski believes that Chubb will miss the rest of the season, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports.

It’s the same knee that suffered MCL, PCL, and LCL damage in October 2015 during a college game.

The four-time Pro Bowl tailback rushed for 64 yards prior to his exit. Chubb entered Monday’s matchup with 106 yards following Cleveland’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals in its season opener.

Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong Jr. will see more snaps in the backfield while Chubb is dealing with the injury.

The Georgia alum rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the past four seasons. He racked up a career-high 1,525 yards to go along with 12 touchdowns in 2022. He also added 27 receptions for 239 yards.

Chubb signed a three-year, $36.6-million contract extension with the Browns in July 2021.
