Vikings’ Jefferson sustains chest injury in return from 7-game absence

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson suffered a chest injury and did not return to the team’s 3-0 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

The superstar wideout took a big hit over the middle of the field as he hauled in a pass early in the contest. Athletic trainers tended to Jefferson in the medical tent before he left for the locker room.

As a precaution, Jefferson was later taken to the hospital for further evaluation. He returned to the team after the game and will travel home with the Vikings.

The 24-year-old was playing for the first time since sustaining a hamstring injury in Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

K.J. Osborn, Brandon Powell, and first-round rookie Jordan Addison are expected to operate as the team’s top three receivers with Jefferson sidelined.

Jefferson hauled in two passes for 27 yards before being forced out of the game. The first catch was enough for Jefferson to surpass Hall of Famer Randy Moss for the most receiving yards by a player under 25 years old in NFL history. Jefferson was tied with Moss at 5,396 yards entering the game.
