Zion cleared for on-court activities, will be re-evaluated in 2 weeks

New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson has been cleared to resume on-court activities and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the team announced Wednesday.

Williamson hasn’t played since Jan. 2 due to a right hamstring strain, missing 35 games over that span.

Should Williamson return in exactly two weeks, he’d be able to suit up for New Orleans’ final three regular-season games.

When asked about Williamson’s return to the floor this season, head coach Willie Green said, “We’ll see,” per ESPN’s Marc J. Spears.

Without their leader on the floor, the Pelicans have faltered, going just 12-23 since Williamson went down. As a result, the team sits outside of the play-in picture as the Western Conference’s No. 12 seed with a 35-37 record. However, New Orleans is just half a game back of ninth.

Williamson was in the midst of another fantastic season before getting hurt, averaging 26 points, seven rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game on 60.8% shooting from the field. He was voted as an All-Star starter but had to back out of the competition due to his injury.
