The deadly games from the Netflix hit series Squid Game transcend fiction in the teaser trailer for Squid Game: The Challenge, the reality show with the biggest prize in history.

Released in 2021, South Korean-made Squid Game became one of the biggest hits on Netflix, breaking viewing records around the world and dominating the Top 10 of most watched shows in several countries. The story follows Seong Gi-hun, a divorced man going through a difficult time on a professional and personal level.

Desperate to get money to survive and pay his debts, he accepts the opportunity presented to him to participate in a game that offers a prize of 45.6 billion wons. But what appears to be simply a strange event that replicates popular childhood games turns into a dangerous nightmare when those who fail to pass the tests die. Which means that whoever wins the prize will be the one who manages to survive.

While fans wait for the second season of Squid Game, which has been in development for a long time, Netflix announced the development of a reality competition show where 456 people will be able to compete for a prize of $4.56 million dollars, making it the highest prize for a show of this kind.

On Friday, the streaming platform unveiled the teaser trailer for Squid Game: The Challenge, which arrives on November 22:

As in the original series, the participants will have to face various competitions, passing test after test, leaving the losers behind until only the winner remains.

What to Expect from Squid Game Season 2

Netflix

In the first season finale, Seong Gi-hun won the prize. Back in the real world, he manages to find the creator of the games, and decides that he is going to return to the arena to expose what is happening and unveiled the truth behind the deaths that have occurred without anyone knowing.

Details about the plot of the second season have been kept under wraps, but it will likely focus on a new group of participants who desperately turn to the game to win money. But with Seong Gi-hun determined to expose everything that’s going on, things are about to get interesting. So, in addition to new games, the plot will probably expand beyond the arena.

Earlier this year, Netflix confirmed the cast of the second season which will be led by Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun, Lee Byung-hun as FrontMan, and Wi Ha-jun as Hwang Jun-ho. They will be joined by Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun in undisclosed roles.

Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae will soon be part of the Star Wars universe in The Acolyte, one of the franchise’s upcoming series. The story takes place nearly 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, during the High Republic, and follows a Jedi master and his Padawan as they try to solve a series of crimes that hide a much darker truth.
