As well as this brief glimpse at the final season of Cobra Kai (which also includes Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso doing battle), Netflix has also released a behind-the-scenes shot of the cast alongside the caption, “Yes, Sensei! Here’s a behind the scenes peek of the filming of the biggest, baddest, and final season of Cobra Kai.”

The end of Cobra Kai is near. Jon Hurtwitz recently resumed writing for the last installment of the show after the end of the writers’ and actors’ strikes. Netflix has now confirmed that the next and sixth season of the acclaimed Karate Kid sequel series would be the last one, but due to the strikes in Hollywood, production of the new episodes had to be paused. Now that the conflicts have been resolved, everything is ready for the team to return to work on the show.

During an interview with UPI to promote his most recent production for Netflix, Obliterated, Jon Hurwitz confirmed that he has returned to work on the Cobra Kai scripts in order to begin filming soon. In addition, he revealed his hopes that after the end they can develop some spinoffs:

“Hopefully, the characters are rich enough that if there is an opportunity in the future to pick up with them again one day, they’ll still be characters people are hoping to spend time with. We’ve also added so many characters to the mix and storylines to the mix that it’s constantly evolving what this final season is going to be. We are taking ourselves to places in the finale that we think are going to be fun, surprising and exciting.”

Created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg and distributed by Sony Pictures Television, Cobra Kai debuted in 2018 on YouTube Red, where it was canceled after two seasons despite the very good reception it had. Due to its success, Netflix decided to save it, bringing the first two installments to its catalog and developing the third, fourth, fifth and sixth seasons.

What to Expect from the Final Season of Cobra Kai

In the finale of the fifth season, the alliance between Johnny and Daniel’s dojos worked out, and after an epic battle they managed to defeat Terry Silver and Cobra Kai. However, John Kreese has escaped from prison, so no one is safe in The Valley because, of course, “Cobra Kai will never die.”

In addition, the previous season revealed the existence of a famous, highly prestigious martial arts tournament, something that will surely have a lot of importance in the new episodes. So the final season will surely find Daniel preparing his students for the new tournament, Johnny dealing with his fatherhood, the teens having to work together, and everyone facing Kreese and Cobra Kai when they return.

And if they’re really interested in leaving the door open for future spinoffs focused on some of the show’s characters, new conflicts will surely arise that will not be resolved to maintain fans’ expectations and expand the universe of the series.

Meanwhile, on the big screen, Sony is currently developing a new movie set within both the the Karate Kid reboot universe starring Jackie Chan and the Netflix show.
