Thin Lizzy’s The Boys Are Back in Town takes on a whole new meaning as the first official look at season four of The Boys drops. Yes, The Boys streaming series is back for another go-round, and actor Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher is bringing Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s unknown character along for the bloody, super-hero hijinks. Check out the teaser trailer for Prime Video’s latest season of MAGA-sized madness below:

Morgan is featured sparingly in the brand-new footage, as his secret role remains just that. However, fans are teased as Morgan’s character and the Butcher share a big smile during their first scene together — and they’re revealed to be friends. And their chummy reunion comes with a single question from Morgan’s mystery man near the end of the teaser trailer: “Your team… what’s your codename again?” When Butcher replies, “The Boys,” Morgan sneers as only he can. And the character replies:

Oof… who came up with that sh—?

Now check out the teaser trailer’s official synopsis for season four below:

“The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.”

Jeffrey Dean Morgan shows up in The Boys season four teaser trailer as a rather friendly and almost austere individual in appearance. And there’s not so much as a glimpse of his superpowers, if Morgan has any at all. And even co-star Erin Moriarty is mum regarding Morgan’s character, but she does call the actor “the loveliest human being on Earth.” But the Starlight actress didn’t reveal any spoiler-worthy information.

Morgan’s played some larger-than-life characters over the years, like the baseball bat-wielding Negan in The Walking Dead. And even though Homelander (Antony Starr) is all bloodied up in the final frame of the teaser, it doesn’t appear to be his own ichor. So, Morgan clearly didn’t go all Negan on Homelander, right? Now, if fans want to compare Morgan’s character in the teaser to one of the roles he’s played in other comic book-themed material, the mystery man obviously comes across more like Clay in The Losers (2010) than the Comedian in Watchmen (2009).

There’s arguably no bigger fan of The Boys than that of its newest cast member. And showrunner Erik Kripke has finally reunited with his former Supernatural cohort after many attempts to include Morgan in The Boys even sooner. Back in August of 2022, the reunion was made official by Kripke. And he posted a photo, with Morgan tagged on X, formerly Twitter, welcoming him to the show… in true The Boys fashion (below):

At the time of this writing, The Boys season four doesn’t have an official release date. But the Prime Video series will drop sometime in 2024.
