You Season 3 Trailer Transports Joe to the Soulless Suburbs, What Could Go Wrong?

Joe Goldberg is back, and, despite now living in the suburbs with Love and his new-born son, the trailer for You season 3 shows that nothing has really changed for the disturbed serial killer. Due for release on Netflix next month, You’s highly anticipated third season will drop Joe and his obsessive ways into the suburbs for an outing that looks equally as troubling and thrilling as its critically-acclaimed predecessors.

Produced by Warner Horizon Television, in association with Alloy Entertainment and A&E Studios, the first season of You is based on the 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes and introduces audiences to Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, a brilliant male bookstore manager who crosses paths with an aspiring female writer. What begins as a charming, yet awkward crush grows into something much more sinister when the writer becomes the object of Joe’s obsession.

Using social media and the internet to become close to her, Joe begins to remove any obstacle, including people, that stand in his way of getting to her. The second season of You saw a change of scenery in both the show and its availability, moving from Lifetime to Netflix as a Netflix Original series. The sequel series finds Joe moving from New York to Los Angeles to escape his past. Now living under the name Will Bettelheim, he soon meets avid chef Love Quinn and begins falling into his old patterns of obsession and violence. The second season ends on typically dramatic terms, with Joe discovering that he and Love have a lot more in common that he initially realized.

Season 3 picks up where season 2 left off, and finds Joe struggling to navigate through his new suburban nightmare. With a baby in tow, can Joe refrain from falling into old habits? Sadly not, as Michaela McManus (The Vampire Diaries, The Village) is on board to star as the neighbour and object of Joe’s merciless desires, who was introduced in the final moments of the second season.

From the trailer, it seems that Joe’s fears about the tedium of suburban life were not entirely unfounded. Alongside McManus’s alluring neighbour, the series will introduce Shalita Grant (Santa Clarita Diet) and Travis Van Winkle (The Last Ship) as a shady couple that takes a curious liking to Penn Badgley and Victoria Pedretti’s characters Joe and Love. Season 3 will also feature recurring roles played by Dylan Arnold, Tati Gabrielle, and Scott Speedman.

You co-creator and showrunner, Sera Gamble, recently teased some idea of what audiences can expect from this third outing, hinting at the “bonkers” nature of the upcoming season. “I feel privileged to have gotten to witness everyone’s creativity, resilience and kindness,” Gamble said. “I mean, I knew our team was tough and good at their jobs, but holy sh*t did everyone show up for each other. All the way up the Warner’s/Netflix ladder and in every production department. (Also, the episodes are f**king bonkers and the performances are insanely good. That’s all I’ll say about that till we are ready to talk about the new season.)” You season 3 will arrive on Netflix on Friday, October 15.
