Samuel L. Jackson Shows Off Nick Fury’s New Look in Secret Invasion Set Photos

Secret Invasion is currently filming in Leeds, U.K. and new photos from the set have given a first look at Nick Fury’s new bearded appearance.

Disney+

Filming on Marvel’s Secret Invasion has been underway for a while now, and we are finally seeing some of the first images from the upcoming Disney+ show with a number of set photos finding their way online that feature Avengers mastermind Nick Fury, aka actor Samuel L. Jackson. Although Fury turned up briefly for Tony Stark’s funeral in Avengers: Endgame, his appearance in Spider-Man: Far From Home turned out not to be the real Nick Fury at all, but a Skrull in disguise in all but the post-credit scene that revealed Fury to be working on a secret space base, which helped to set up the Secret Invasion TV series back in 2019.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The new images from the set do not give away anything about the movie’s plot, but they do give a look at the new bearded look that Fury is sporting on his upcoming appearance. Although Samuel L. Jackson has appeared in a huge number of Marvel projects, this is his and the character of Nick Fury’s first headlining appearance which promises to be a top drawer Marvel blockbuster of a show. After being announced back in 2020, filming got underway on the series at the end of last year, with Jackson’s Fury being joined by Captain Marvel co-star Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull character Talos, Colbie Smulders reprising her role as Maria Hill, and an ensemble of newcomers to the franchise including Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke.

The new images taken in Leeds, U.K., are just some images to have recently made their way off the set, with previous leaks revealing a set dressed up with Russian signs declaring National Unity Day, which could be infiltrated by Skrulls for one reason or another. With the main plot clearly involving the fact that Skrulls have been on Earth for a long time, shape-shifting their way into places of power, there is likely to be a lot of action and intrigue in the series when it arrives.

Marvel’s Secret Invasion Seems To Have Been Removed From Marvel’s 2022 Release Schedule

While there is a lot of coming Marvel fans way this year between cinematic releases and Disney+ shows, an image shared from Marvel’s Japanese website previously suggested that Secret Invasion would be arriving sometime later this year. A recent update to the site though appeared to drop the series from the upcoming feature list, along with a second season of What If…? that was also previously included in the line-up. Whether this means that Marvel Studios has its doubts over whether the show will be ready in time for a release this year is something we will have to wait to find out, but considering the likes of Moon Knight and She-Hulk completed filming three or four months ago and are still two plus months away, it would probably be a bit tight on the post-production team to complete the hefty amount of special effects work needed in time for a summer release.

Once filming wraps up on the latest addition to the Marvel franchise, we will probably get a better idea of when we can expect to see the series arrive on Disney+. There is a strong belief, given the inclusion of both Nick Fury and the Skrulls, that the series could have strong ties to The Marvels, the Captain Marvel sequel that will also feature Monica Rambeau, who was last seen in WandaVision, being advised by a Skrull that she was wanted by Captain Marvel for an important mission. As with all Marvel projects, there are plenty of cross-overs that could potentially appear at any time, and it will be interesting to see just how many appear in Secret Invasion.
