    .
  • Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
, the first spinoff in the franchise, has received acclaim despite struggling at the box office.

Mad Max director George Miller has several ideas for further movies in the franchise following this year’s Furiosa, with the filmmaker teasing his idea for another Fury Road prequel. Discussing the idea with USA Today, Millers summed up the idea as “Max in the Wasteland,” and would follow the titular antihero in the year before he crashes into Imperator Furiosa in 2015’s critically acclaimed sequel.

“In terms of where we are going, there’s this account of Max in the year before we meet him in Fury Road, which we still have. I don’t want to jinx it, but it’s the story we call ‘Max in the Wasteland,’ and it looks at what forges him as a character. If the planets align, I’d love to do it.”

A further Mad Max outing titled Mad Max: The Wasteland has been in the works for some time, and based on this tease from Miller, this is presumably the same project. This is not the first time that the filmmaker has offered details of this Fury Road prequel recently, with Miller revealing that the idea sprung from preparation on the 2015 outing…

“In doing what we did in the preparation of Mad Max: Fury Road, we also wrote what happened to Max in the year before we encounter him in [that film]. And as we get towards the end of this movie, the chronology… Basically, we had to see that Mad Max was lurking around somewhere because we do know what happened. The writers know what happened to Mad Max in that year before, and we have a whole story of that, which I would like to do sometime if I get the chance.”

George Miller Has Also Revealed Plans of a Mad Movie: Fury Road Sequel Led by Furiosa

Miller clearly has big plans for the Mad Max franchise, with the director having also teased his idea for another movie led by Furiosa. One set after Mad Max: Fury Road.

“I’ve often speculated when we see Furiosa go up to the Citadel on that platform at the very end [of Fury Road] and nod goodbye to Max who wanders to the Wasteland… I often think: ‘What does she do, sitting up at the top of the dominant hierarchy? Does she fall into the trap that most revolutionaries do? You know, yesterday’s hero becomes tomorrow’s tyrant, which is classic in storytelling.”

While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
