Women in Hollywood often speak about how they have to work two times as hard as their male counterparts to demand respect. As the only Black woman to win Best Actress at the Academy Awards, for her role as Leticia Musgrove in Monster’s Ball, you’d think respect is instantly given to Halle Berry. However, it seems as if she and other women are still dealing with nonsense as the actress revealed Chris Hemsworth stood up for her during a moment in their new film Crime 101. For that reason, Hemsworth gained a lifelong supporter in Berry, who expressed her admiration for the Marvel star.
Berry and the Australian actor were at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas to promote Crime 101, which is centered on detective Lou Lubesnick (Mark Ruffalo) tracking a jewel thief (Davis, played by Hemsworth) who follows Crime 101 rules detailing a strict set of guidelines for the perfect heist. E! News got the chance to talk to Halle Berry about the film on the red carpet where she brought up Chris’s dedication to standing up for her.
“[He’s] a stand-up guy. I won’t go into it now, but he stood up for me in a moment in our movie, and instantly I knew right then I’m gonna follow this guy, be a fan of this guy for the rest of his life because he stood up for a woman,” she said.

The actress went on to say, “He didn’t have to do it, and he did it.” Chris Hemsworth recently revealed that he was intimidated to work with a legendary actress like Berry. He said, “I’ve admired Halle’s work for many, many years. I was obviously very intimidated to sit opposite her within a scene and try and, you know, not just be in awe of what she was doing. People bring out not just the best in you, but also a comfort level where it does feel like it’s a place to explore and to examine different ideas, try different things. That was the experience. I loved every second of it.”
The admiration both actors have for each other is definitely something that should make people want to watch the crime thriller. Berry plays an insurance broker in the film, but the character’s name hasn’t been mentioned. Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins and more are also included in the cast. Pedro Pascal was originally set to play the jewel thief, Davis, but was unable to due to scheduling conflicts, so Hemsworth stepped in. Bart Layton directed Crime 101, which is an adaptation of a novella by Don Winslow.
