Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul Confirmed for Better Call Saul’s Final Season

It’s official, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will be back as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in the sixth and final season of Better Call Saul. Up to this point, the Breaking Bad stars have not yet appeared in the spinoff series in any capacity, though other characters have. It had been rumored that the duo would finally come in for a cameo in the final season, and now, co-creator Peter Gould has confirmed that Walt and Jesse are returning.

“I don’t want to spoil things for the audience, but I will say the first question we had when we started the show was, ‘Are we gonna see Walt and Jesse on the show?’” Gould said at PaleyFest LA, per Variety. “Instead of evading, I’ll just say yeah. How or the circumstances or anything, you’ll just have to discover that for yourself, but I have to say that’s one of many things that I think you’ll discover this season.”

Seemingly suggesting other Breaking Bad stars will appear as well, series star Bob Odenkirk then teased, “If you can believe it, there’s more.”

Co-creator Vince Gilligan had recently implied that Walt and Jesse would be involved in season 6 of Better Call Saul. While not outright confirming their return, as Gould now has, Gilligan noted that it would be a “damn shame” if those characters didn’t appear in some way.

“I personally feel that the two shows — Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul — are entwined even more than ever in the final season,” Odenkirk also told Variety on the Thursday red carpet. “And I think that’s surprising and cool, and it’s gonna make you want to watch Breaking Bad again.”

Better Call Saul Has Been Saving Walt and Jesse for Last

While Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul were the main stars of Breaking Bad as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, they haven’t yet appeared in Better Call Saul. Of course, the show has previously introduced other Breaking Bad characters, with some of them becoming major players on the spinoff alongside Bob Odenkirk’s Saul Goodman. That includes Jonathan Banks’ Mike Ehrmantraut, Mark Margolis’ Hector Salamanca, Lavell Crawford’s Huell, and Giancarlo Esposito’s Gus Fring. Many other stars have come on the show for special appearances, including a member of Walter’s family. Dean Norris appeared in season 5 to reprise the role of Hank Schrader, Walter’s brother-in-law, alongside Steven Michael Quezada as Gomez.

It sounds like there will be other Breaking Bad stars coming into the final season of Better Call Saul which certainly makes sense, as the prequel will need to start bridging the gap between both shows. Even so, what many fans are looking forward to seeing is what happens with the spinoff’s original characters who weren’t in the parent series, as their fates are still unknown. What will become of Rhea Seehorn’s Kim Wexler, Patrick Fabian’s Howard Hamlin, Michael Mando’s Nacho Varga, and Tony Dalton’s Lalo Salamanca?

We’ll find out soon enough. The sixth and final season of Better Call Saul will premiere its first two episodes on April 18 on AMC.
