Deadpool 3’s Hugh Jackman Gets Ripped to Portray Wolverine Again in Brand-New Video

Summary

  • Hugh Jackman is working out hard to physically continue playing the role of Wolverine in Deadpool 3.
  • Jackman posted a video of himself doing difficult deadlifts, showcasing his dedication to getting in shape to play the Adamantium-clawed mutant again.
  • Wolverine and Wade Wilson both make their first appearances in the MCU during Deadpool 3.

Hugh Jackman is pumped to play Wolverine… literally. True, the X-Men movie alum originally thought he had portrayed the character for the last time in director James Mangold’s 2017 film Logan. But friends Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy ultimately lured Jackman back to play the Adamantium-clawed mutant in Deadpool 3. And Jackman is a man on a mission as he gets ripped to physically inhabit the character once more following the long layoff during the SAG-AFTRA strike. Jackman posted a video of himself working out on social media, and the post reads as follows:

LFG #becomingwolverineagain(again)

In the very short video posted to Instagram, Jackman impressively performs one set of difficult deadlifts. Jackman’s barbell is stacked with four enormous plates on either side, as he executes five reps to AC/DC’s Thunderstuck. Check out the Instagram post of Wolverine working himself into shape for Deadpool 3 in its entirety below:

Jackman has portrayed Wolverine in a total of nine films. And at the conclusion of Deadpool 2, Jackman does appear in that awesome flashback to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, while Wade Wilson (Reynolds) is time traveling. In that footage, Wade and Logan (Jackman) prepare to face off, but then Future Deadpool arrives and mercilessly kills the inferior version of himself in the past.

Hugh Jackman Returns for Deadpool 3

While Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) have faced off before in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Deadpool 3 will mark both of the characters’ first appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). And photos have already been revealed that confirm Wolverine and Deadpool will wear comic book-accurate costumes in director Shawn Levy’s upcoming superhero sequel.

And now that the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike has come to an end, actors can jump back on social media and promote their future projects. Jackman didn’t waste much time either when he posted the video of himself getting ripped to continue playing Wolverine. Trainer Beth Lewis has been working closely with Jackman, and she couldn’t be more proud of his efforts to get in superhero-worthy shape. Lewis reposted Jackman’s Instagram post @bethlewisfit, and she commented as follows:

GOAT Nobody works harder than this one! The BEST and I am so proud ❤️ @thehughjackman

Jackman keeps his fans in the loop on social media. And in an Instagram post uploaded before the SAG-AFTRA strike, the then beardless actor professed his commitment to becoming Wolverine again. Check out the image below of Jackman working hard with a kettlebell in preparation for Deadpool 3:

Prior to beginning his intensive workouts to reprise the role of Wolverine, Jackman was busy performing the role of Harold Hill in The Music Man at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre. But there’s no question that Jackman will be ready to spar with Reynolds both verbally and physically once the two mutants come face to face again next year. Jackman said in an interview prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike (per People):

“There’s one thing that about eight shows a week being on Broadway singing and dancing, is I’m fit. So, I’m healthy. I have a good place to start. You can’t rush it. I’ve learned that it takes time. So, we have six months from when I finish [The Music Man] to when I start filming. And I’m not doing any other work… That’s going to be my job for six months. And I’m really fit right now.”

Deadpool 3 drops in theaters on July 26, 2024.
