Kyle Allen Plans for Life on Mars in Space Oddity

Ahead of the release of Space Oddity in theaters and digital on March 31, we have an exclusive clip to premiere. In the movie, Kyle Allen (West Side Story) plays Alex, a young man who is presented with the opportunity of leaving this world to start a new life on Mars. Our clip showcases Alex coming to terms with the trip in the time leading up to his worldly exit, even getting interviewed on television for the “Space News.” You can check out the clip below.

Space Oddity is written by Rebecca Banner and directed by Kyra Sedgwick. The film stars Allen, Alexandra Shipp (tick, tick… BOOM!), Madeline Brewer (The Handmaid’s Tale), Carrie Preston (The Good Fight), Simon Helberg (The Big Bang Theory), and Kevin Bacon (City on a Hill). Sedgwick produced the film with Valerie Stadler, Meredith Bagby, Richard Arlook, Jack Greenbaum, Mark Maxey, and Mickey Schiff. It is executive produced by Paolo Mottola Jr., Joe Z. Crosby, Ibrahim Alhusseini, JL Pomeroy, Daryl Roth, and Brent Emery, and the synopsis reads as follows:

“Alex (Allen) longs to travel to outer space and finally gets the opportunity to do so thanks to a privately-funded Mars colonization program. In the midst of his rigorous preparation, he meets Daisy (Shipp), the new girl in town who’s trying to start over. The two wayward souls connect in unexpected ways, both of them harboring secrets that they’re desperately trying to overcome. However, when questions about the legitimacy of the program and the future of his parents’ flower farm begin to crop up, Alex finds himself questioning whether it’s easier to confront his past or fly away into the stars. In a time when nihilism about the Earth’s future is rampant, it can be difficult to find optimism about what comes next. However, Space Oddity is a heartwarming film that encourages living life to the fullest with those you love the most.”

“We are thrilled to bring Kyra Sedgwick’s feature film to audiences,” company president Peter Goldwyn said. “Space Oddity has so many facets that seamlessly combine into a warm, engaging picture — swaying easily from a charming romance to a larger tale of the state of our world and the possibilities it holds.”

“This film means the world to us and we can’t wait to share it with audiences,” added Sedgwick.
