Love and Thunder Scene Has Fans Excited for Popular Character’s MCU Debut

WARNING: There are MAJOR SPOILERS in this story for Thor: Love and Thunder.Marvel has just released the new film Thor: Love and Thunder, providing the latest chapter in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by Taika Waititi, the film serves as the fourth solo Thor film for Chris Hemsworth. Christian Bale also makes his MCU debut in the movie as the villain, Gorr the God Butcher, joining Hemsworth and a returning Natalie Portman as Jane Foster.

Gorr is not the only character from Marvel Comics to make the switch to the MCU in Thor: Love and Thunder. As showcased in a mid-credit scene, Hercules has now officially arrived. Earlier in the film, Zeus (Russell Crowe) has a confrontation with Thor and is left wounded. The mid-credit scene has Zeus calling upon his son, Hercules, to go after Thor for retribution. Viewers are then shown a glimpse of the MCU’s Hercules with the character portrayed by Ted Lasso favorite Brett Goldstein.

When it was announced that Russell Crowe would be playing Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder, there was an immediate push from fans for Hercules to be brought into the MCU. At the time, there had been some fans calling for Henry Cavill to play the part as it would reunite him with his Man of Steel co-star, as Crowe also played Cavill’s father in that film. It turns out that the plan was already there for Hercules to come into the MCU with Goldstein in the role. In any case, with Hercules in the MCU now confirmed, many fans have been expressing excitement.

Will Thor 5 Showcase Thor vs. Hercules?

As the introduction of Hercules in the MCU is still fresh, it’s not yet clear when exactly Brett Goldstein will return in the role. Many fans are hoping that this results in a Thor sequel that will see the two fighting before eventually becoming allies. Whether Thor 5 actually ends up happening remains to be seen, though the film did have a strong performance at the box office which will certainly help those odds. Chris Hemsworth has also made it clear he’s happy to keep making more movies if that’s what the fans want.

“Every time I play Thor, I’m like, ‘This is the last time they’ll let me do it.’ So, I don’t know,” Hemsworth said when asked if he’d be back in another film (via Extra). “I love it! I love it. I’ll keep coming back for more and more until someone kicks me off the stage. I love it. My whole career has been based around this character, and to come back and play it again and again with different directors and different casts has been an absolute joy.”

The actor added, “We’ll see what the fans want. I’m down for whatever’s enjoyable, and having a good time, and that’s what this experience in the Marvel world has been for me, so, bring it on!”
