Markiplier to Direct and Star in Iron Lung, New Horror Film Based on Video Game

YouTube sensation Markiplier is getting into the horror movie business. On his YouTube channel, Markiplier released a teaser trailer for Iron Lung, a horror film he’s directing and also starring in. You can watch that teaser below.

Production on Iron Lung is currently underway in Austin, Texas, per Deadline. Markiplier wrote the script as well in addition to his acting and directorial duties, though the story is based on the submarine horror game Iron Lung, which was released last year by developer David Szymanski. Markiplier is self-financing the project and will produce alongside Will Hyde and Jeff Guerrero. Caroline Rose Kaplan (The Plot Against America) also stars.

The Iron Lung video game has players in a small submarine, and the entire game is set in this limited location. There are no viewing ports in the sub, and the player must navigate through the waters using only a map and the submarine camera. Players must also watch changes in oxygen and pressure, adding to the dangers. More information about the plot and the player character are revealed during the course of the game. Szymanski has confirmed his involvement in Markiplier’s film as well.

“So yes, tl;dr the reason I’ve been so busy lately is because I’ve been heavily involved with production of the Iron Lung movie, from assisting with the script and pre-production to now being on set for the shoot and even having a small cameo in the film,” he said on Twitter. “I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turning out so far. This is going to be something very special, and very wild.”
