Kings’ Fox plans to play in Game 5 despite broken finger

Sacramento Kings star De’Aaron Fox is prepared to suit up in the team’s crucial Game 5 contest against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday despite suffering a broken finger in his shooting hand.

Talking to reporters including ESPN’s James Ham on Tuesday, Fox said he was “99-100%” playing.

He added: “If it was regular season – probably don’t play, sit out for a week, see how it feels, but right now there’s no ifs, ands, or buts, I’ll play.”

Fox’s statement comes the day after he was listed as doubtful on the team’s official injury report. He suffered an avulsion fracture to his left index finger in the fourth quarter of the team’s 126-125 loss in Game 4.

The inaugural Clutch Player of the Year has been excellent throughout the opening-round series, averaging 31.5 points, seven assists, and six rebounds, including 38-point performances in Games 1 and 4.

Fox will be a vital piece to the Kings’ quest to regain the advantage at home in the 2-2 series against the Warriors, as the All-Star leads the team in playoff minutes per game at 38.5.
