Brooklyn Nine-Nine Final Season Trailer Is Here

As the eighth and final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine quickly approaches, the official Twitter account finally released a trailer for the NBC sitcom. Fans should “Get ready for the most ambitious final season in Nine-Nine history. Season 8 of #Brooklyn99 premieres Thursday, August 12 on @NBC” according to the Twitter account. The trailer, imitating a blockbuster movie in style in tone, gives many glimpses at the final season, including an emotional moment between Jake Peralta and Charles Boyle.

It’s a short trailer, but it gets the job done. It does not give away any important plotlines, but it gives every character a moment to shine – including some characters not a part of the main cast. The trailer confirms that beloved recurring characters Doug Judy (played by Craig Robinson), Holt’s husband Kevin (played by Marc Evan Jackson), and Adrian Pimento (played by Jason Mantzoukas) will appear in the final season. The trailer also promises to show Jake and Amy’s work/life balance with their newborn in a humorous way. Additionally, Boyle seems to insinuate that he will be leaving the Nine-Nine. There’s a lot going on!

In an interview with comicbook.com, star Melissa Fumero (who plays Amy Santiago) said that the final season will be well worth the wait. She said, “It’s bittersweet, but I’m really proud of the show. I’m really proud of this season. I think it’s going to be a really satisfying end I hope for the viewers and just trying to think of it as like the victory lap, celebrating the show, celebrating the people I work with. Not trying not to take anything for granted and stay really present.” Although that could mean anything, it seems like Fumero and the Nine-Nine crew did their best to assure a satisfying finale, which is rare to pull off for shows of this caliber.

Season 8 will be shorter than previous seasons of the show with only ten episodes total. Every other season has had at least thirteen, so this will be a significant drop. There has been no official reason given for the drop in episodes, but it’s certainly possible that the COVID-19 Pandemic had something to do with it. The final season will also tackle some relevant issues given its reputation as a cop show. In an interview with Variety, star Andy Samberg (who plays lead character Jake Peralta) said,

“The challenge is going to be being honest about what is going on in the world and not shying away from the fact that there are serious problems, and also not punishing viewers who like our show and care about our characters. Our characters need to examine their roles in the world. They’re going to be forced to look in the mirror and see who they’re complicit with. I think it’s important for us and for anyone watching our show to keep in mind if we’re looking for a half-hour comedy show to be the ones to solve this problem, we’re in trouble. Our job is pointing out that stuff isn’t getting done right and spreading the word that we’re hopeful that it can get better.”

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 will premiere its first episode on NBC on August 12, 2021. It will also be available to stream on Peacock.
