Freshman Year Will Be “Unique”, According to Writer

  • Spider-Man: Freshman Year, a new animated TV show for Disney+, will explore Peter Parker’s early moments as Spider-Man, with a style that celebrates his comic book roots.
  • Writer Jeff Trammell is excited for everyone to see the show, which is being worked on to feel special, fun, and unique.
  • The Spider-Man franchise is expanding with upcoming projects like Spider-Man 4, Spider-Man: Freshman Year, and the continuation of the Spider-Verse saga, along with standalone films featuring other characters from the Spider-Man universe.

Jeff Trammell, one of the writers behind upcoming Marvel Studios animated project Spider-Man: Freshman Year, teases something very special for Peter Parker fans.

Before Tom Holland’s return as the friendly neighbor from Brooklyn in Spider-Man 4, the beloved Marvel Comics hero will be getting a new animated tv show for Disney+. First announced in 2021, the project is set to work as a prequel to the introduction of Peter within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which happened in 2016 with Captain America: Civil War, when Holland’s character was recruited by Tony Stark to join his team to fight against Steve Rogers’ led group.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year will explore the first moments of Peter as Spider-Man. The official description anticipates “unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.” Answering to a fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, writer Jeff Trammell offered more details about the vision that the team behind the project has:

“Nothing that I can share yet, just that I’m eager for everyone to see the show. Our crew worked (and is still working) hard to make Freshman Year feel special, fun and unique and I’m excited for the world to see it!”

Not much information has been unveiled about the series, which is supposed to be hitting the Disney+ screen next year. One of the little news that Marvel Studios has provided is the return of Charlie Cox as Daredevil, lending his voice for Matt Murdock in the show. Tom Holland, for his part, is reportedly not voicing Spider-Man, this means a new actor will be announced as the main star of the project.

The Spider-Man Franchise Keeps Growing

Sony Pictures Releasing

Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man: Freshman Year are just two of the many productions coming out in the next couple of years connected to the character. The Spider-Verse saga, for example, has one movie left to release. Although Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse does not have a date to hit theaters since it was recently delayed, fans can expect it to arrive in 2024 or 2025, since a big part of the film has already been completed.

Surprisingly, in the world of Spider-Man not everything revolves around him. Sony Pictures has been creating its own franchise based on characters that are connected to the famous hero, and there are still a few more projects coming out that are part of that same universe.

Next year, Dakota Johnson will debut as Cassandra Webb in Madame Web, which will also introduce Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter aka Spider-Woman. Aaron Taylor-Johnson will return to the world of comic book adaptations playing another Spider-Man villain in Kraven the Hunter, while Tom Hardy will be playing Eddie Brock once again in Venom 3.
