‘May the Force Be With You All’

Star Wars icon Billy Dee Williams has teased a major announcement regarding his return to a galaxy far, far away. Taking to social media, Williams shared a post that hints he will reprise the role of Lando Calrissian in a future Star Wars project, hinting at a further announcement to come. Check out what Billy Dee Williams had to say below….

“I am thrilled to share that something truly magnificent is coming soon. This is a dream come true for me, on all that has sustained and carried me through a lifetime of dreams and adventure, it is my honor to share with you. Billy Dee Williams was first introduced to the Star Wars franchise as Lando way, way back in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back. Reprising the role in Return of the Jedi in 1983, Williams has also played a part in the Disney sequel trilogy, with Lando once again joining the fight for the galaxy in 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

So, what project could Williams be teasing? The most likely conclusion is his involvement in the upcoming Lando series, which recently got a major update regarding development. The character of Lando Calrissian has appeared on the big screen without Billy Dee Williams, with Community star and Emmy Award winner Donald Glover playing the gambler and con artist in his early years in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. While Williams did not play a part in the prequel, could the actor be teasing his inclusion in the upcoming series…

How Could Billy Dee Williams Fit Into the Lando Series?

Lucasfilm/Walt Disney Studios

Details regarding the plot of the Lando series are largely unknown at present, but it is expected that the Disney+ show will follow Donald Glover’s younger version of the character and follow on from Solo: A Star Wars Story. Centering on the smuggler and ally-slash-rival of Han Solo, the series is likely to explore the criminal underworld of the Star Wars galaxy, following Lando as he gradually becomes the character we meet in The Empire Strikes Back and the administrator of Cloud City.

So, how could Williams fit into the Lando prequel series? The obvious options would be using him as the narrator, perhaps with Williams appearing in bookend scenes of each episode. However, there is always the possibility that the Lando show will take things in a much zanier direction, using time travel to have the two versions of Lando meet…

Of course, there is always the chance that Billy Dee Williams could be teasing another Star Wars project entirely, and we will simply have to wait patiently for his next announcement.

The Lando series is now reportedly in development, with reports revealing that Donald Glover will not only reprise the role of Lando Calrissian, he will also co-write the project with his brother Stephen Glover.
