The Netflix anime series Blue Eye Samurai has now been officially renewed for a second season. The announcement comes via the streaming platform, who took to social media to share a clip and remind audiences of the sheer amount of bloodshed in the first outing, as well as the glowing critical response.

The creators and writers behind Blue Eye Samurai, husband and wife team Michael Green and Amber Noizumi, have also since released a statement in which they promise that “Mizu has a lot more blood to spill!”

“When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations. We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue.”

Set in 17th-century Edo-period Japan, Blue Eye Samurai follows Maya Erskine as Mizu, a female mixed-race blue-eyed bushi. Driven by a dream of revenge against those who made her an outcast in Edo-period Japan, a young warrior cuts a bloody path toward her destiny.

Maya Erskine (PEN15) leads a cast that includes George Takei (Star Trek), Masi Oka (Heroes), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Mortal Kombat), Brenda Song (Dollface), Darren Barnet (Never Have I Ever), Randall Park (WandaVision), and Kenneth Branagh (Oppenheimer), as well as Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Ming-Na Wen (Mulan), Harry Shum Jr. (Crazy Rich Asians) and Mark Dacascos (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum), among others.

Details of what season two of Blue Eye Samurai will involve remain under wraps at present.
