Rick and Morty Season 5 will consist of 10 episodes, similar to most of the other seasons. If future seasons will also be made up of a similar number, then we would be on track to get at least 11 seasons of Rick and Morty on Adult Swim. After its fourth season, the network had announced a renewal for 70 more episodes of the Emmy-winning series, meaning there will be at least 60 more to go once season 5 ends. In any case, Rick and Morty is here to stay.

The guaranteed episodes also means that the wait between seasons is now much more bearable for fans. It took waits of nearly two years between seasons 2-3 and seasons 3-4. Now, season 5 will be coming just over a year after season 4 concluded its run in 2020. Series co-creator Justin Roiland previously addressed how the renewal would be able to help the cast and crew do a much better job of producing new episodes more efficiently.

“We’re super excited that, for the first time ever, we’re locked in, we know what the future is, we have job security,” Roiland told Polygon at the time. “[Co-creator Dan Harmon] is in great spirits, we have a great writer’s room. We want the episodes to stay good, but we do also want to try to turn them around a little quicker now that we have this big order, I think it gives us the ability to be faster. We’re not going to do these long breaks, these chasms in between seasons anymore. We’re going to schedule vacation time and just keep the machine going. It’s going to be really cool.”

Teasing what’s to come in season 5, Roiland added: “It’s exciting, it’s a little surreal,” Roiland said. “Even just being in the writers room for half the day every day this week, the ideas are … it’s going to be great.”

Originally developed as a parody of Back to the Future, Rick and Morty follows mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his meek grandson Morty as they travel throughout space and time on hilarious misadventures. In addition to co-creating the series, Roiland also voices both of the titular characters, with the voice cast also featuring Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, and Sarah Chalke. The series has also featured a variety of guest stars like Christopher Meloni, Dana Carvey, Christina Hendricks, and Stephen Colbert.
