Demi Moore’s Horror Film ‘Corporate Animals’ is Now Available on Shudder

Demi Moore has been making a comeback of the ages, with her performance in the body horror hit, The Substance, earning her multiple awards, including a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress. But The Substance isn’t the only recent body horror film she has starred in. In 2019, she appeared in another thriller, Corporate Animals, and it’s currently available on horror streamer, Shudder.

The movie follows an abusive, egomaniac CEO named Lucy (Moore) as she leads employees from her company, Incredible Edibles, on a team-building exercise to try and save the business. The co-workers go spelunking in New Mexico, with Lucy deciding they need to on a much more advanced route, against the better judgment of the guide, Brandon (Ed Helms). What follows is a bizarre attempt at lampooning corporate culture that descends into cannibalism and chaos, plus an utterly bizarre dream sequence with Helms and co-star Karan Soni (who plays Lucy’s assistant and “boy toy”).

The 10 Best Movies of Demi Moore’s Career, Ranked

Demi Moore remains one of the most talented and versatile actresses of her generation, and these movies tell why.

Despite debuting at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and Moore and Helm’s star power, Corporate Animals completely bombed at the box office, earning a paltry $22,588. And if you’re wondering, there aren’t any missing zeroes; the film really did make just over 20 grand. It holds a terrible 25% critical and 14% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and in MovieWeb’s review of the film, Julian Roman says the direction and script are to blame for such a missed opportunity. He wrote:

“Lackluster direction is the primary culprit for the film’s failure. Patrick Brice (‘Creep,’ ‘Creep 2’) gets nothing from a cast of known Hollywood regulars. The performances are clunky and forced. Moore rattles off her lines like she’s racing for the door. Everyone in the cast looks like foolish amateurs when the horror elements kick in. Corporate Animals plummets like a meteor into B-movie territory.”

One has to wonder if Moore, Helms, and the rest of the cast were looking for a quick paycheck. If you think you can stomach this atrocity, it’s currently streaming on Shudder. You can make it a double feature with Razzie Worst Picture winner, Madame Web.

Demi Moore Could End Up Hoisting the Best Actress Oscar on Sunday

The Substance has seen Moore win multiple acting awards for her performance as Elisabeth, a fading Oscar winner, who takes a black-market drug called “The Substance,” which causes a younger and better version of herself to emerge. What follows is a bloody great satire film with excellent performances from Moore and Margaret Qualley, who plays Sue, the more perfect version of Elisabeth.

Written and directed by Coralie Fargeat (Revenge), the film landed on several “best movie” lists for 2024. It currently has a 90% critical and 75% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has made $77 million at the global box office on a reported $17.5 million production budget.

So far, Moore has won Best Actress Awards at the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, BAFTAs, and several others. She is the favorite to win the Best Actress Oscar, according to the oddsmakers, which would cap off an incredible career comeback.
