Kate Middleton’s Pink Suit at London Roundtable

For a fresh dose of office fashion inspiration, look no further than Kate Middleton’s latest stylish public appearance. On Thursday, the Duchess of Cambridge hosted a roundtable with government officials to discuss newly published research from her Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood. She arrived at the London event wearing a simple white blouse layered beneath a pastel pink pantsuit by Alexander McQueen, one of her go-to designers.

Ever the fan of classic footwear, Middleton opted for pink pumps by Emmy London that complemented her suit’s soft hue. Her accessories included pieces from jeweler Mappin & Webb like a diamond pendant necklace and matching earrings.

In a statement, she remarked on how people’s experiences in early childhood “fundamentally impact” the rest of their lives, adding that the findings from her organization demonstrate there is “real appetite” from the public to prioritize early childhood development.

“There is more we can all do — every member of society can play a key role, whether that is directly with a child or by investing in the adults around them — the parents, the carers, the early years workforce and more,” she said.

Unsurprisingly, Duchess Kate’s pretty-in-pink fashion moment was reminiscent of yet another archival Princess Diana look. In 1989, the late princess wore a pink suit by Catherine Walker and a matching Philip Somerville hat during a visit to Northampton in the UK. For that occasion, Diana also chose a matching jewelry set to accessorize with — though hers was a pearl necklace and pearl earrings.

Middleton’s pink suit is the latest in a string of outfits that nod to elements of Diana’s style. Earlier this month, in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, she stepped out in a pastel yellow ensemble by Emilia Wickstead to attend the service of thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. Princess Diana frequently wore the same shade when she visited Australia and New Zealand with Prince Charles in 1983. (And, FWIW, Wickstead is a New Zealand-born fashion designer currently based in London.)

Ahead, see more snaps of Middleton’s pink suit along with a throwback photo of Princess Diana wearing her own interpretation of the timeless ensemble.
