Black Panther 2 Star Winston Duke Says He Would Love to See a M’Baku Spinoff

With MCU spinoffs and various miniseries arriving every year on Disney+, Winston Duke is looking to get in on the action. The actor plays M’Baku in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a character first introduced in Black Panther in 2018. Although we haven’t seen too much from M’Baku (compared to other overarching characters within the MCU), his character has proven to be engaging in his few appearances.

Of course, M’Baku will return for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and he may serve a more prominent role following the devastating loss of Chadwick Boseman. However, Winston Duke is looking to be included in a world where Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Loki, and Agatha Harkness receive their own Disney+ shows. During an interview with Collider following his appearance at the D23 Expo, Duke was asked what he would want a M’Baku spinoff to focus on if it ever came to fruition. He insists his answer is purely hypothetical but likes the idea of exploring what his character would be like out in the world.

“Say that again, so that everyone can hear it. Say that again, for the people in the back. The Jabari-Lands are such a rich space of culture within Wakanda that it would be really cool to explore that. We’re speaking purely hypothetically here. We’re just spit-balling and dreaming. You’re dreaming with me, my tall friend. I like the idea of what M’Baku would be like, out in the world. That would be pretty cool because he’s not a character that we usually see exploring. I think his type of code of honor would be pretty cool to see interact with so many other things.”

Whether we ever see a M’Baku spinoff is still up in the air as Marvel has already introduced a flurry of characters as we dive deeper into the Multiverse saga. However, his role in the overall MCU should continue as long as he doesn’t meet an unfortunate demise in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is Nearly Ready for Release

Marvel Studios

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has the daunting task of following up the first film without the lead of Chadwick Boseman. The film will undoubtedly attempt to honor his legacy, as much of the movie seems to center around that. The official brief synopsis for the sequel reads: “The nation of Wakanda is pitted against intervening world powers as they mourn the loss of their king T’Challa.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever features several familiar faces, including Martin Freeman, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, and Danai Gurira. Tenoch Huerta is set to join the cast as Namor, the primary antagonist of the upcoming film. Ryan Coogler helms the project just as he did with Black Panther and serves as a writer alongside Joe Robert Cole. The long-awaited sequel to the 2018 hit is arriving in theaters soon, with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiering on Nov. 11.
