Jon Hamm, famed for his Mad Men role, is a name gaining traction in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), a domain renowned for its superhero tales and grand sagas. This ever-expanding universe is constantly introducing new characters and stories, with Hamm potentially being one of its latest additions. Recently, Hamm expressed his eagerness to dive into the MCU, potentially as part of the X-Men or Fantastic Four franchises, following previous talks about playing the X-Men villain Mister Sinister.

Hamm’s connection to the Marvel world isn’t a recent development. For the sequel to The New Mutants, 20th Century Fox once eyed Jon Hamm for the role of Mister Sinister, a notable X-Men villain. However, the acquisition of Fox by Disney, which led to the X-Men rights reverting back to Marvel Studios, altered the course of that possibility. Despite this shift, Hamm’s enthusiasm for a role in the Marvel Universe remains undimmed.

Jon Hamm, in a Screen Rant interview largely about Fargo season 5, expressed his views on a potential MCU role. As a self-proclaimed comic book enthusiast since childhood, Hamm revealed his deep-seated interest in Marvel Comics and the wealth of stories they offer. He expressed a genuine desire to be part of Marvel Studios’ plans for the upcoming X-Men reboot or to explore a role in The Fantastic Four universe, potentially as the notorious Doctor Doom. Hamm said:

I don’t know. Those decisions get made at such a high level at this point, definitely above my pay grade. I would love to. I’ve been a fan of Marvel Comics and comics in general since I was probably single digits. I think there are tons of stories that I’m familiar with, at least, that are still out there to be told.

Hopefully, whatever their plans are, they include me. But if not, I know that they have a pretty deep bench of folks that are ready to be a part of those stories. There are certainly a lot of stories in the X-Men world to be told. Fantastic Four as well, [like] Doctor Doom. There are so many great things out there. But yeah, I hope I get a chance. Who knows?

The course of Hamm’s professional life points to him being an attractive pick for the MCU, especially in the X-Men or Fantastic Four series. His versatility as an actor, demonstrated in a range of roles from the suave Don Draper in Mad Men to his compelling performance in Fargo, underscores his ability to bring depth and complexity to whichever Marvel character he might embody. The idea of Hamm portraying Mister Sinister comes with a sense of poetic justice, completing a circle that began with his initial association with the character. Alternatively, venturing into the Fantastic Four realm offers a plethora of possibilities, from significant characters like Franklin Storm to the enigmatic Silver Surfer.
